Setting Up Main Parameters
This section involves the setup of commonly used
parameters for a scaffold such as number of boarded lifts, distance between bays, height
of handrails, size of floorboards, etc.
To set up the main parameters of your
scaffolds, do the following:
1. From the Main Page, press F7 or click on the Main Setup button in
the Optional setup For Scaffolding Specialists Only! section.
The
Main Setup screen displays.

2. Enter the values for the following parameters:
- Distance Between Lifts - distance between two adjacent
Lifts.
- Distance Between Bays @ Side - the distance between two
adjacent side standards. The default is 2 (meters)
- Distance Between Bays @ Front - the distance between two adjacent front
standards. The default is 2 (meters)
- Gross No. of Boarded Lifts - the number of working lifts or lifts to be installed
with boards or battens. The default is 2.
- Height of Platform Handrails - the height of handrails from the working lift to
the top handrail. This is measured when a person is standing on a working lift. The
default is 1 (meter).
- Number of Ladder Entry Points - the number of entry points in a ladder. The
default is 1.
- Height of Foot Lift - the vertical distance from base of scaffold to the lowest
horizontal ledger or transform (also called kicker or base lift). The default is 0.3
(meters).
- Size of Ladders - the size of ladders to be used.
- Number of Handrails Per Lift - the number of handrails per
lift. The default is 2.
- Mark-up % - the percentage of materials to add to the calculated quantities.
Scaffold specialists may add a markup to ensure enough usable materials in cases of loss,
damage, pilferage, etc. For example, if you enter 100 (do not enter the %), ScaffPro will
provide a materials list that is double the calculated required quantities.
3. Select the Calculation Method for
materials sizes:
ScaffPro has been programmed to use the default
settings for British Standards BS5973:1993. Tubes are staggered according to these
requirements. Using these standards, adjacent tube joints located on the same row and bay
will be avoided.
ScaffPro calculates staggers for standards, ledgers,
transforms, and immediate transoms. ScafPro does not stagger handrails assuming it is a
non-load bearing part of the scaffold, although the option to stagger is available.
- Free run Sizes - choose this option if you
wa
nt ScaffPro to
read the size closest to the actual scaffold size without regard to cut sizes.
Stagger 1 Normal - choose this option if you
want the
simplest and most economical method of stagger. In this method, ScaffPro selects the
longest tube size for the job (for example, based on the total height of the scaffold)
and calculates the nearest quantities just short of one tube reaching the total height.
Then it adds one more short tube to top off the height. Just one short tube is added for
every line of standards or ledgers. To stagger the tube joints,
alternate the single
short tube placement with the longer tubes every row.
Stagger 2 Closefit - choose this method of stagger if you are
comparing very
close scaffold sizes where you want the combinations of tubes sizes to be as
close as
possible. The program finds combinations of staggered tubes whose total sum comes the
closest to the overall lengths. This method may not always find a close match as in the
case of a total height that is too far from the tube sizes provided in the Tube Setup.
No Stagger - choose this method if you do not want ScaffPro to stagger any tubes.
It will use the same size tubes for all ledgers and standards in the Setup section.
